  • Movie Night at the Cabin was a lot of fun!The Troop would like to say “Thank You” to Eric Osborn for donating his time and equipment for this evening!
  • Gumboot Lake Outing - The Troop would like to say “Thank You” to Jeanette Wrysinski, David Rosen and Aren Scardaci for volunteering to join us on this campout. Without these fine adult volunteers this trip would not have happened. Thanks to for all the great information about the Bald Eagles, Osprey, Red Tail Hawks, Woodpeckers, Spotted Sandpipers, Toads and Snakes that we spotted on this trip!
  • July Troop Outing - Chuck Fleck is planning a great beginners backpacking trip for the Troop for July 7-8. All Scouts who are planning on attending need to start thinking about how to properly pack and carry a backpack as well as what is important to take along and what you should leave behind! If you don’t already own a backpack then you have several options
    1. Rent from UCD or REI
    2. purchase your own from the Army/Navy surplus on Main Street, REI, Walmart, etc.
    3. borrow from a friend or family member

  • Flag Etiquette Night - July 3 - We will be learning the proper way to raise, lower and fold a flag as well as the proper way to put on a flag ceremony. We will also try to fit in a formal flag retirement ceremony.
  • Merit Badge Saturday - This program will be put on in Winters, CA on Saturday, July 14th. Yes, this is the day before we leave for Camp Wente! Scouts need to come prepared for these classes.
  • Don’t forget to get your request in to the Scoutmaster no later than Thursday, June 28th!

  • Summer Camp - You should start getting your items together for summer camp! All Scouts will need a full class “A” uniform including socks (if wearing shorts!), Scout pants and belt along with Troop hat and neckerchief! Don’t wait until the last minute to get your things together! Let’s BE PREPARED to look sharp! We will also need to take our Troop activity shirts. This camp does not provide beds! Be sure to pack your sleeping pad or cot!

All necessary paperwork must be turned in no later that June 30th!!!

NO TROOP MEETING JULY 24th

As per Troop tradition we will take the night off after camp!

Gumboot Lake Outing – June 22-24

We will meet at the Scout Cabin at 1pm, Friday June 22. Scouts may bring fishing gear if they wish. Mr. John will be joining up with us on Saturday to show us some more fly fishing techniques! The cost of this outing is $20/Scout. Be sure to bring your permission slips with you (these can be copied from the Troop webpage if you need an extra copy). Scouts need to bring a sack dinner to eat in route to the camp out. We will be in uniform on Friday. Also, don’t forget to pack your bug spray!

Backpacking Instruction Night - June 26

This will be a very informative Troop meeting with instructions on how to properly pack a pack, what to bring and what to leave behind as well as outdoor skills used during backpacking experiences.

July Troop Outing – July 7-8

We are planning an easy backpack trip for this weekend. Watch for up-dates on this exciting trip!

Flag Etiquette Night - July 3

Scouts will learn the proper way to raise, lower and fold a flag. We will be practicing our skills for summer camp. If time permits we will also be demonstrating the proper way to retire a flag.

Merit Badge Saturday - July 14

The last day to sign up for this will be Wednesday June 27th. Please contact the Scoutmaster if you plan on attending. The cost for this event is $12 and includes a hot dog lunch. Please not that some classes are all day while others are half day. The cost is $12 regardless if you plan on taking one or two classes. Lunch for adult volunteers will be $3/person.

Summer Camp - July 15-21

Don’t forget that all paperwork and payments must be turned in by June 30th. This includes adult camp fee ($100) along with auto insurance information and Youth Protection certification as well as all medical forms. All Scouts attending camp will need full uniform including scout socks (if wearing shorts), belt and Troop hat along with neckerchief. Please check to be sure patches are sewn on appropriately! Let’s look sharp!

As per tradition we will be taking the night off following summer camp!

Movie Night at the Scout Cabin Attention Parents! Do you have access to Power Point Presentation equipment? We could use your expertise for this fun night! Otherwise the movie will be shown on a small TV! Scouts will be watching the movie October Sky while enjoying floats and popcorn! This will give us inspiration for our Rocket building challenge coming up next month!

Gumboot Lake Outing – Please sign up with your Patrol Leader soon if you plan on attending. We will be leaving Friday afternoon June 22nd returning late afternoon or early evening on Sunday June 24th.

Backpacking Instruction Night – Scouts will learn the proper way to pack a backpack and what is essential for a weekend trip into the wilderness. This is in preparation of our July and August backpack trips. If you do not already own equipment you have several choices. 1. Rent from UCD Outdoor Adventures, 2. Rent from REI, 3. Borrow from a friend or relative, 4. Purchase your own equipment (available at Army/Navy Surplus, Big 5, Walmart, REI, or online at Campmor.com, SierraTradingPost.com, Ebay, etc.).

Troop Backpack Trip – We are planning an easy first timers backpacking trip! Location to be announced! This trip will take place July 7-8.

Merit Badge Saturday – Please have your requests for classes (along with alternate classes) in to your Scoutmaster prior to June 27th. This program is being held on Saturday June 14th in Winters, CA. We will need adult volunteers to join us this day as we are required to provide one adult for every 4 Scouts that are attending! The cost for this day is $12/Scout and includes a hot dog lunch. Adults volunteering will be charged $3 for lunch.

Summer Camp – Be sure to have your requests for Merit Badge Classes turned in prior to June 14th to your Scoutmaster. You must have all necessary paperwork completed and turned in by June 30th to your Scoutmaster. Adult joining us at camp we will need to have certificate of completion of the “Youth Protection training” as well as your auto insurance information in prior to June 30th. All final payments for camp must be in by June 30th. If you need assistance please contact the Scoutmaster. All Scouts will need to have full class “A” uniform for camp. Items of concern last year were Scout pants and belts! Be sure to come prepared! Let’s all look sharp and prove once more that Troop 68 is “Always True!”

Summer Camp – Please take a look at the information packets that have been sent home. Requests for Merit Badge will be sent in June 17th in order to get first choice!

Merit Badge Saturday – Please sign up with the Scoutmaster if you are interested in attending. Some of the classes require some work ahead of time while others require some homework be completed after attending the course – check your email for more information.

Regular Merit Badges being offered:

Animal Science, Auto Mechanics, Cinematography, Disabilities Awareness, Safety, Fingerprinting, Fire Safety, Law, Mammal Study, Medicine, Photography, Plumbing

PLC Meeting – If you are in a leadership role in the Troop please be sure to attend. If you are unable to attend please send a representative from your Patrol.

Troop Committee Meeting – All parents are encouraged to attend the committee meetings. We need your voice and your vote! You may know it but the leaders of the troop do not have any voting power. Without parent involvement we can not make decisions that impact the Troop. You are encouraged to attend a Troop Committee meeting whenever possible. Parents…………..did you know that it is a known fact that kids stay in Scouting when their parents are involved! Join us at our Troop Committee Meeting!
